Review of 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) by Bernie M — 09 Sep 2014
Fifty years on, this classic still holds up pretty well. The "early man" sequence looks a bit rough, by modern standards, and I could never understand what South American tapirs were doing in what appeared to be Africa.
Things were pretty slow until we got into space, then the film really comes into its own. Great coupling of music to image and Hal still holds his menace and pathos. The psychedelic rush bit went on rather too long, but the enigmatic end sequence still works for me.
On the whole, still a great film.
