Review of 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) by Daniel G — 22 Apr 2016
I can see why a lot of movie critics consider this a classic. For it's times, it had a pretty interesting story, beautiful production design, photography and directing. All the technical aspects to it are pretty impressive.
However, it has a huge and obvious flaw: it's painfully slow. Critics try to justify this as it being "poetry", but let's get real: it's the slowest movie known to mankind. You can seriously crop it until it's just a 30 minute story and it would still have the same events.
And as good as everything else may be, the fact that I didn't enjoy watching this movie, or that I would really not want to watch it again ever, forces me to give it a 1/5. Sadly, movie critics have not learned the lesson over the years, and we still see the beautiful but not enjoyable to sit through oscar bait movies.
