Review of 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) by Brandon W — 22 Nov 2016
I've heard so much about this film and how influential this is to every science fiction movies. I watched the beginning before a few years back, but I got so bored of this film that I didn't watched it again until now.
So coming across this and actually finished it, I can definitely see why its influential as 2001: A Space Odyssey is a masterpiece of filmmaking. The acting is really good, especially Douglas Rain as H.
A.L. 9000 who gives out no emotion, but still can be very intimidating and disturbing. The effects still look amazing even to this day, and I have no idea how they did it which is a rare thing for me to say.
The beginning segment is actually really good and it really gives a deeper message about the evolution of the human race, even if it bores some viewers. The scientific accuracy is really great when I hearts about that also, and it didn't disappoint.
The writing by Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke is very well written and it gives it some thought provoking moments. The score is beautiful and I didn't know that some of the songs I know of actually come from this movie which I found very interesting.
The characters are a bit memorable, but the one character that everybody knows about including me even before watching the movie, is H.A.L. 9000. The machine is so terrifying, smart, interesting, and knows about what humans are like consider that it's created by human themselves which makes it more effective.
There are a lot of memorable moments, and the film is not like any other space film by its plot, characters, and the effects which surprises me. 2001: A Space Odyssey is a fantastic movie that I put it in pare with Gravity for the best space movie that I've seen.
