Review of 20,000 Days on Earth (2014) by Alan W — 09 Oct 2014
Not being too familiar with Nick Cave's music, I only went because the reviews have been so universally positive. (And I have a cold and I want to avoid going to the pool.) The film is definitely different from your usual music documentary.
It is innovative and fluidly put together - fusing interviews, setups, live performances and rehearsals into a coherent whole that is interesting and intriguing enough to watch even for a non-fan like myself.
Not as vain or pretentious as expected, this is more of an abstract portrait of an artist with a sense of humour. Does it make me want to go out and buy his music? No. Do I feel I know more about Cave the man? A little.
