Review of 20,000 Days on Earth (2014) by Stephen C — 10 May 2015
The prince of darkness Nick Cave is not everyone's cup of tea.
I for one had strong reservations about this film going into watching it but unlike most music docs this really does hit the spot.
The film concentrates on a day in the life of Cave as he travels around his adopted city of Brighton focusing on his meeting with work colleagues interspersed with clips of his band the Bad Seeds recording a new album.
The film is part real part fiction and its good that the film manages to pull this off as the danger would have been a massive self indulgence..
During the course of the film we also get cameos from Kylie Minogue and Ray Winstone who discuss music and mortality with Cave and we also see Cave admit his fallings as we trawl through his personal archive.
If you haven't sampled the works of Nick Cave then this film could act as a fine primer for one of music's true originals.
