Review of 20,000 Days on Earth (2014) by Javier E — 02 Jul 2015
If for nothing else, the music of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds is on full display here, and that is always a good thing. What surprised me about the film was that I didn't find Cave as interesting as the main character as I had anticipated.
I think instead where the film shines is when the supporting characters are interviewed about their take on performances that stuck with them. There was a passion in how they remembered their interesting history as a band.
What makes this film work so well is that way it's paced. Although a slow burn, the scenes where they are recording for Push the Sky Away are really genuine and I love the way Cave performs even when few are watching.
Fans will likely find what they are looking for, and I would argue those who haven't heard of Nick Cave can gleam enjoyment as well. Overall I recommend it!
