Review of 200 Cigarettes (1999) by Heather B — 01 Jan 2006
Happy New Year! Now, being that I'm an insomniac and being that it was a holiday, they played 200 Cigarettes around 2am, and I watched, and am consequently still awake to review. And write some articles coming later. .
200 Cigarettes was cute, and that's really the gist of it. A whole bunch of tiny coincidences that lead many quirky New York characters around on New Years Eve in '81 and end with almost everyone finding love and happiness in one magical night. Performances were pretty good (I was amused by Gaby Hoffman and surprised that Courtney Love can pull off half-decent if she tries hard enough). Costumes amused me (I LIKE some 80s clothes...yes I know). .
All in all, pretty standard ensemble piece. Nothing particularly stand-outish at all. .
The Opinion: Good to kill time, not much beyond that. .
