Review of 20 Million Miles to Earth (1957) by Robert B — 01 May 2009
Been on a Harryhausen kick lately. The kids really enjoyed IT came from Beneath the Sea but this film they didn't care for. The animation is solid and the story is much darker like Dracula and Frankenstein.
The Emir is suppossed to be a sympathetic creature as it's put into the situation by returning astronauts and a goofy kid who's out to make a buck. But with all the dark undertones and violence where the Emir kills animated people and dogs was too serious for the younger crowd.
It reminded me a lot of Frankenstein both are good films for the Halloween season. I'm not sure which film started it, but do all elder scientific genius Doctors have hot daughters who get involved with the heros? I see this cliche formula a lot in (later 1960's- present)Japanese sci-fi flicks.
