Review of 2 Guns (2013) by Stephen S — 06 Feb 2014
Dreadful. I count Mark Wahlberg among my top favorite actors, pretty much my top 5. And Denzel is always amazing...I've checked out tons of films I would have never bothered seeing if he hadn't been in them.
And Edward James Olmos, who plays the villain, is an amazing actor. So believe me when I'm saying that I was really pumped for this film. I couldn't wait to see it. I couldn't have been more disappointed with this piece of shit.
The story is completely nonsensical and riddled with more holes than the target of an M134 Minigun. The action is tired and doesn't bring anything new to the genre. The entire film builds up to a literal Mexican standoff (complete with cartel hitmen, Navy Special Forces, and rogue CIA agents flying an attack helicopter), that's completely disappointing.
The story involves, without exaggeration, the most confusing plot I've ever seen in any film ever. And the supporting cast ends up being awful. Bill Paxton is both creepy and annoying, and after seeing this film, I can conclude with absolute certainty that Olmos was horribly miscast for this film.
Almost every line he says is amazingly awkward, and somehow manages to subtract from an already terrible film. Avoid this awful film like someone who has the Ebola Virus.
