Review of 2 Guns (2013) by Jonathan G — 06 Jan 2015
[Bobby and Stig have each other in a sleeper hold].
Bobby: All right, all right! On the count of three, we'll let each other go.
Stig: All right.
Bobby: One, two, three.
[nothing happens].
Stig: Now you're making me not be able to trust you.
There's always that film that supplies two big names to grab the audiences' attention to go out and see. Without going into detail about other films, Two Guns does the same thing carrying A-listers Mark Wahlberg & Denzel Washington. For the most part, Two Guns is your standard shoot-me up action movie that happens to have a story filled in with your standard cliched twists and turns. I had a quick, easy time with the movie. I know people will go see Two Guns mainly because of the two stars headlining it. And that works out as it should with great chemistry and some fun humor shared between the two. Neither do too much where one would say "wow absolute brilliant performances" but at least they're not in cruise control and the effort given is satisfying. Are their any other standouts besides Wahlberg and Denzel Washington? Not necessarily, with the exception of Bill Paxton, who was having a ball chewing up the scenery and playing the Infamous game of "Russian Roulette". James Mardsen is in the film too, he's honestly given nothing to do. The character feels pointless to the film. Then you have another more pointless character in Paula Patton. She's nothing more than eye candy (smoking hot not complaining) so it's just like ehh whatever. The action is there, humor is brewing thorough out, Wahlberg & Washington do a quality job, decent direction and I mean yeah. Not too much to say about the film. If it weren't for the two leads, this wouldn't have been worth watching. Fan or not, which I'm a fan of both, they make the film a worthwhile viewing.
