Review of 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003) by Mike D — 13 Jul 2013
A follow-up to the adventures of the original fast, furious crew, '2 Fast 2 Furious' is your average sequel that tries hard to expand on its predecessor but comes up fairly short. While the change of scenery is nice (Miami versus Los Angeles), one of the aspects that made the original so great was the camaraderie of the cast, which is largely lacking in '2 Fast,' save for Paul Walker.
True, Tyrese Gibson and Eva Mendes are not bad actors, but their roles are not all that likable here thanks to a poor script (although Ludacris is really nothing special). The story is pretty standard, so it's not enough to differentiate it from other similar films.
Despite all these low points, '2 Fast' still includes some of the things that made audiences eat up 'The Fast and the Furious,' namely the abundance of awesome cars and some crazy high speed scenes.
Since these scenes are really all audiences want to see, '2 Fast' cannot be considered a "bad movie," it just doesn't really add much and is basically a continuation of the original.
'2 Fast 2 Furious' is an entertaining ride, but is definitely one of the bottom rungs of the 'Fast and Furious' ladder.
