I thoroughly recommend the film Two Days In New York.
A quirky, saccharine-free romantic farce about culture clashes; dysfunctional though loving extended families; and the pursuit of love and sex in and out of relationships.
The sole "message" being: we're all in the sewer looking up at the gutter (Oscar Wilde got it wrong), so get yourself as much love and happiness as possible - and deal with the shit head on.
