Review of 1941 (1979) by Dave A — 08 Sep 2007
Spielberg said 1941 was a humbling experience because the movie bombed and it took him down a peg. I'd hate to think that if this nightmare of a movie were a success, where his career would've gone and what kinds of films he would've made.
Big budget disaster isn't as big a flop as the idiot critics made it out to be, but it's no masterpiece. Spielberg's overbloated comedy epic has no direction and ends up becoming a sprawling mess of badly written subplots and a mixture of realistic characters with live action Warner Brothers cartoon antics.
