Review of 1941 (1979) by Bob S — 19 Mar 2011
This big-budget California-based Spielberg World War II spoof from 1979 has been on my must-see list for years and frankly should have stayed there. The comedy hit its plateau at mildly amusing on occasion, but was more often ignorant, insulting and excessive.
Ackroyd, Mathesen and Pickens provided the intermittent comic relief, but I never understood the purpose of John Belushi's flying ace and I found Williamsâ(TM) skirt-chasing to be barbaric. The enormous ensemble cast were all side-stories to a young couple out to win a dance contest, yet these featured characters were annoying and portrayed by the less talented Di Cocco and Kay.
