Review of 1941 (1941) by Laurence R — 27 Feb 2010
Not a bad movie! I like the theme of the movie: paranoia and hysteria about invasion of the American homeland even if it was near impossible that Japan could launch such an attack.
So this movie is about many parallel stories that overlap until its final explosive conclusion. It's a typical American comedy with its very physical and straightforward humor with a small blend of love and its happy ending. 1941 features many well known actors and even Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune as a Japanese officer. Fidelity of costumes from this time period seems right especially girls which wear skirts and stockings. That's cool because I like those stuff and I feel that all women should be wearing them nowadays.
I guess that Steven Spielberg just felt like doing a comedy to ridicule how people can get so crazy about their fears especially when everybody shares the same fear. In this case it means fear of being invaded. And then this fear becomes a mass phenomenon where it develops into something totally out of control. Overall it's a light and funny movie for the whole family.
