Review of 1917 (2019) by Batmite — 09 Jan 2020
An intense and perilous journey seen through the eyes of two young soldiers that are tossed into this mission: stopping their fellow British troops from advancing and falling into a ambush. The film follows what seems to be two young and fairly inexperienced troops as they fight the elements and their own fears through foreign land to save their fellow soldiers from a trap from the opposing forces.
The story has its moments of intense, stressful situations weaved with some time to let the audience breathe a sigh of relief, if only for a second or two. The visuals are what keep the performances and the writing tied together.
There are plenty of stunning sets and visuals all strung together into one continuous shot that puts you front and center of the story. This film is all about the journey rather than the destination as we see later on that, not unlike the war itself, some things never seem to change.
