The final trimester feels a little underdeveloped, but one could see the whole playing constructively as a salutary lesson in exactly the kind of provincial school "17 Girls" takes as its location: without ever patronising or condescending to its teenage subjects, the Coulins are broadly sympathetic, while letting you know exactly what these girls are facing with the grisly implications of a single line: "The doctors say she's too small to give birth; it could be dangerous.
