Review of 17 Again (2009) by Mariam B — 26 Jul 2015
A fluffy but enjoyable teen comedy that works mainly due to the great chemistry between Zac Efron and Thomas Lennon and a surprising amount of heart that mirrors the story of It's A Wonderful Life.
The idea of reliving your past is nothing new, but this film takes advantage of the younger self living in his present world so instead of the mother falling for Marty in Back to the Future, we have the main character's DAUGHTER fall for him.
The cast is all capable and Leslie Mann is a delight in this, not constantly shrieking like usual and her rapport with Efron was always amusing. A big complaint I have is that Mathew Perry looks NOTHING like Efron and a better choice would have been Rob Lowe or Jon Stamos; they need the work too! It's a slightly forgettable, but enjoyable while you're watching it comedy that is safe for most ages and helped prove Efron could carry a film!
