Review of 16 Blocks (2006) by Rainer K — 28 Mar 2012
How to begin this... Richard Donner assembles a solid cast headed by Bruce Willis (mustachioed, he looks pretty funny) and Mos Def (pretty annoying - surprisingly good) to make a thriller so unspectacular I almost have nothing to write about it.
The story of Det. Jack Mosley (Willis) who escorts small-time criminal and witness Eddie Bunker (Def) to the court is told in real time - a narration device that I thought would make it tedious - I was wrong. 16 Blocks is tense and entertaining and has much you want and expect from a crime thriller.
Nevertheless, this genre is so overcrowded nowadays that it gets lost in stereotypes again and again.
You'll probably won't hate it if you tune in when it's on TV or you rent it for a movie evening but there's barely a memorable scene/character/line - all in all, forgettable - not a bad movie though and Donner knows his stuff for sure.
