Review of 1408 (2007) by Christopher C — 14 Mar 2012
I was pleasantly surprised by this film. Although 5-year-old (I've listened to lately), it is incredibly different than what I had expected. I was prepared to listened to a story typical of haunted place but I was wrong.
I did not know very well Mikael Hafstrom (the producer) except for his film of 2011, The Rite (which had disappointed me). But 1408 offers something different. Maybe because I'm always dishearten to listen to the same type of story.
This film does not rely on special effects or breathtaking acting skills (although John Cusack is very talented in that movie). The film is based 100% on the atmosphere. This one is extremely heavy, as if it were falling at any moment. We are literally drawn into the movie as if we participate to it. The story itself is smart and well developed by the film crew.
This is not a film to miss ... The end is the cherry on the cake!
Bravo!
