Review of 1408 (2007) by Shaughn S — 02 Apr 2013
Quite possibly the creepiest movie I have ever seen!
1408 stars John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson. Based off of a Steven King short Story 1408 takes you an an epic and quite unsettling thrill ride. The plot at first seems very simple. John Cusack plays Mike Enslin, a paranormal writer who visits local so called ghost spottings and then writes about them in books.
Mike Enslin soon gets a postcard from the Dolphin Hotel located within the city. On the postcard it reads "Don't stay in 1408" and of course now Mike wants to find out why no one should stay in 1408.
Samuel L. Jackson is the Dolphin Hotel manager, and all he can to not have Mike stay in that room. It doesn't work and Mike gets the room. I won't go further into details, because you just have to watch to find out what happens. Once Mike enters the room the plot thickens and goes all over the place. This is definitely a film that you need to pay attention to when watching it, or else you may miss something and it won't make sense. It's a very confusing plot to follow.
At times this movie had me on the edge of my seat and others it had me puzzled(like I said it's a confusing movie). John Cusack put on an amazing performance as Mike Enslin, but since when doesn't Mr. Cusack put on a good performance!
I give this movie a 8.0/10. If your in the mood for an unsettling thrill ride that will have you guessing what may or may not happen next then this is for you. Also if your a Steven King fan than this is DEFINITELY FOR YOU!
