Review of 14 Blades (2010) by Jim C — 10 Mar 2011
The original title is Jin Yi Wei é¦è¡£è¡> or The Brocade-Clad Guard. As always, a Chinese translation of the title is not quite to-the-point, but 14 Blades certainly sounds better than The Brocade-Clad Guard! In short: The Matrix + Pirates of the Caribbean mashed up into a martial arts flick.
If you know your martial arts film genre, you will know that Daniel Lee is one of the foremost directors in this field. So, it means that if you're not fussy about content, and you just enjoy martial arts movies, special effects and slick action, you will enjoy this movie.
I personally liked it quite a bit. It was non-taxing and just one of those non-thinking type movies. Even the translation in subtitles was fairly accurate!
