Review of 13 Tzameti (2006) by Lari T — 03 Oct 2007
What a concept for a movie. And I thought Tarantino had no equal! This thriller is quite an experience. If you do not mind movies with a high dead toll, you can enjoy this French movie. If you watch the extras, you will be blown away seeing an interview with an ACTUAL survivor of the dangerous game portrayed in the film.
One of the things I decided I really liked about the movie (after I saw it) was the fact that it is in Black and White; it adds a wonderful sense of uncertainty and intensity to the whole story, just like Good Night and Good Luck did.
The young man (son of the director) who playes the lead really carries the film for me; you can see and understand every emotion he has just by looking at his face. And the transformation he goes through is quite noticeable at the end of the movie.
The ending did not quite satisfy me, but it makes perfect sense to the whole story. So, again, if you enjoy nightmarish film noir, this movie is for you.
