Review of 13 Sins (2014) by Panta O — 09 Jun 2014
13 Sins, also known as Angry Little God and 13: Game of Death, is the American R rated movie, a remake of the 2006 Thai horror comedy/psychological thriller 13 Game Sayawng (13: Game of Death or 13 Beloved). This was the only Thai movie I watched twice and in the original the director Chukiat Sakveerakul managed to keep me entertained until the end, which wasn't the case with this version which was just a pale copy with Daniel Stamm's directing! Mark Webber had no charisma of the original actor Krissada Sukosol Clapp who was simply a perfect choice to portray a desperate man who is led through progressively challenging, degrading and dangerous stunts by mysterious caller from an underground reality game show. If you never watched the original, there is enough in this movie to entertain you and keep you awake!
I would suggest to watch the original Thai version first and then give it a go for this one - you'll see what I mean with the beginning few sentences. There was much more comedic elements in the original film, while this one shifted the gear into more "Saw" type style which I never found appealing. I will still give it 60%, and describe it as "watchable" (again , don't forget, I am comparing it with the better original, and I am definitely subjective in my opinion).
