Review of 13 Going on 30 (2004) by Matthew W — 11 Nov 2010
I love this movie mainly down to the comedy performance of Jennifer Garner who really put in a top performance playing Jenna Rink a 30yr old woman who somehow goes back to a 13yr old trapped inside, the casting is pretty strong with Mark Ruffalo playing her childhood sweetheart. It doesn`t really have any laugh out loud comedy but it is very subtle with a Big Dollop of feel good, a perfect movie for a cold sunday afternoon with a loved one or family. Of course this is not a new idea its been done before most famously in the 80s with BIG and Vice Versa and this movie has a lot of 80s nostalgia with a scene that involves the dance from thriller being very memorable.
Also have to mention Andy Serkis who probably just steals the movie from Garner with an outstanding performance as "camp" magazine publisher Richard Kneeland. He brings some of the movies best lines and seemed to relish the role in this movie.
So the plot might be silly, it might not be original but it`s a damn good movie!
