Review of 13 Going on 30 (2004) by Sof?A L — 01 Feb 2011
Hilarious beginning. Thirteen year old Jenna Rink wishes she were "thirty, flirty, and thriving" only to find herself in an adult's body and in an existing relationship with a smarmy boyfriend who uses Vanilla Ice as a means to seduce her.
Yeah, I'd wanna go back to my teens as well. To top that off, the adult Jenna (Garner) needs to rebuild her friendship with Matty (Mark Ruffalo) whom she seems to have slighted in her mature years (this is all implied as Jenna didn't know all of that.
..she just got here as a thirty year old!) Unlike Big, where Josh finds himself back to hanging out with his best bud pretty quickly upon turning into an adult (yeah...I believe you are Tom Hanks, Josh.
..let's go to the arcade!), Jenna has to prove to Matty that she's changed (and is still the same old Jenna from their teenage glory days and as we all know, she really is). This movie has a bit of everything and is lighthearted, fun, and never too overboard.
But with all due respect to Michael Jackson, I didn't share Jenna's enthusiasm for "Thriller." The rest of the songs used were ok, especially at the beginning.
