Review of 13 Ghosts (1960) by Devon — 08 Apr 2009
College prof's furniture gets re-possessed so he and his family move into the big hautned mansion he inherits. The only problem? It's haunted by 13 ghosts. He also inherits a pair of magice 3D glasses that allow him to see the ghosts, but they also kill bumble bees.
The wicked witch from "The Wizard of Oz" plays a creepy medium/housekeeper who helps the family get in touch with the dead uncle. From there it only gets more convoluted, with a shady lawyer getting involved and there being something about the rich uncle's money being hidden somewhere in the house.
But what about the 13 ghosts? Well, there's a greenscreen chef ghost, who has a big ghostly handlebar mustache, and then there's a greenscreen lion ghost with a greenscreen headless lion trainer ghost.
But the ghosts play a very small role in this film. It's mainly about the family, who could very well be your average 1950s sitcom family. In fact, the whole movie just reminds me of an average episode of the 50s Superman show, only not as entertaining.
