Review of 13 Ghosts (1960) by Kevin R — 17 Dec 2009
Ask me no questions and I?ll tell you no lies.
A single father down on his luck is left a magnificent mansion one miraculous day by a recently deceased uncle. The father doesn?t know that his uncle believed in witchcraft and conjuring spirits. When the father and his family arrive at the house, they are quickly haunted by the evil spirits. Will the family live long enough to survive the spirits or will they be consumed by the ghastly beings.
?I just saw a lion and a man without a head.?
William Castle, director of The Tingler, Mr. Sardonicus, Macabre, House on Haunted Hill, The Law vs. Billy the Kid, Jesse James vs. The Daltons, Undertow (1949), The Fat Man, and Serpent of the Nile, delivers 13 Ghosts. The storyline for this picture is interesting and well delivered. The settings were marvelous and the characters were presented perfectly. The cast included Charles Herbert (The Man in the Net) and Jo Morrow (Sunday in New York).
?This house is not a gift. It?s a burden.?
This is one of the numerous horror pictures we DVR?d during this past Halloween season. Turner Classic Movie (TCM) aired a plethora of William Castle movies and they were all fascinating. This film contained an interesting storyline and even more interesting characters. The premise was first rate and the ghosts were original and entertaining. I recommend seeing this film at least once.
?She?ll cut out your tongue.?
Grade: C+.
