Review of 13 Assassins (2010) by Silas A — 17 Sep 2011
As restrained and refined as Miike has ever been but not entirely without his twisted sensibilities, "13 Assassins" feels like a modern take on a very Kurosawan genre. Being a remake of 1963's "Jûsan-nin no shikaku" by Eiichi Kudo, the plot of "Assassins" is very straightforward and familiar but the execution is twisted, beautiful, and inspired enough to make this one of the best classic samurai action movies in recent times.
