Takeshi Miike's take on the samurai genre. Although having some graphic and brutal scenes (mainly while establishing the films main villain as a "real bad guy") Miike has made a quite traditional movie in this genre.
The heroes are noble and willinf to lay down their lives for a greater good and the battle scene in the end is long and vast (maybe a few lesser opponents could have worked better IMHO).
