Review of 13 Assassins (2010) by Gregory C — 21 Nov 2011
Takashi miike manages to touch on all his favorite subjects (sexual violence, child victimization, sadism) while delivering a pretty remarkable samurai period piece. keep in mind, the remarks i'd make would have nothing to do with any kind of plot complexity or particularly strong characters but with the 50 minute swordplay bloodbath that closes the film.
this movie isn't even close to being as good as miike's best work but it's still pretty fun. I wonder if "the great yokai war" is on blu-ray yet....
