Review of 13 Assassins (2010) by Tom B — 20 Dec 2011
13 Assassins is a brutal, bloody, tour de force of Samurai movies ever made. I loved this movie. That means a lot! Movies like this, I have little patience for. And I mean that with the best intention. 13 Assassins starts out fair enough, and I'll admit I was a bit confused in the beginning. After the first 15 minutes, however, I was hooked.
The time period of the movie, when recruiting the assassins seemed a bit tedious. However, once they embarked on their journey, I was hooked! This has got to be the film that features the longest fight sequence and its rough --- yet awesome.
I loved, loved, loved this film.
Fair warning, its a Japanese film, with subtitles. But that doesn't matter. The last 45 minutes there are no subtitles, and its all about the action on the screen.
For Kurosawa fans, you'll see some similarities. For others who are unfamiliar with this genre, WELCOME to the club.
I highly recommend this film. Its great! I loved it and if you like your action - after some set-up time, you'll be repaid in troves.
