Everybody was Kung Fu fighting, man those cats were fast as lightning.
Actually, there was no Kung Fu but a huge amount of hacking, slashing, samurai action. Pretty much the whole of the final third of this film is one long fight scene. And apart from the ridiculous CGI burning cows (you'll see what I mean) it's fantastically done.
People have pointed out that with 13 central characters you don't get enough back-story from any of them. Rubbish, you don't need back story, they're samurai, there's a bad guy. Let the good times roll.
