2011 proved to be a terrific year at the movies and this wonderfully exciting, mournful, entertaining, and sad samurai pic underscores all that is right at the movies. This is a true triumph for Miike who manages to totally move beyond what is expected in a samurai film.
A bit too long and the big battle scene doesn't build to the crescendo desired but all in all, a super movie.
