The Seven Samurai meets Caligula meets Platoon. An ambitious samurai period-piece that channels the spirit of the Seven Samurai (including a "Kikuchiyo" villager slash would-be-samurai character).
Great costumes, production and cinematrography. What it lacks in character and theme development is made up with decent sword play. A very good, but not great, samurai movie.
