Review of 127 Hours (2010) by Steviegjd — 04 Dec 2010
This movie should have been a lot better than it is. The story is interesting and gripping. What prevents this movie from being great is the screenplay. The first 30-40 minutes is great and the the last 15-20 minutes is great.
The 20-30 minutes in the middle is the problem. We should be feeling more scared and claustrophobic than we are. We shouldn't be distracted by a "game show" sequence that is so phony and contrived that it kind of ruins the mood.
But, it is not long and starts and finishes well. It just could have been much better.
