Review of 127 Hours (2010) by Josh C — 02 Sep 2013
Gorgeously photographed by Anthony Dod Mantle and Enrique Chediak, Peter Boyle's adaptation of Aron Ralston's memoir 'Between a Rock and a Hard Place' is a captivating survival film. Essentially a one-man show, James Franco is mesmerisingly perfect as the resourceful Ralston, showcasing a sophisticated dramatic range, as well as the protagonist's diminishing mental state, that is particularly highlighted when he envisions himself on a talk show.
Boyle gets close to the bull's eye with '127 Hours', but his overuse of split-screen distracts from the harrowing rawness of the story.
