Review of 127 Hours (2010) by Kevin R — 05 Aug 2012
This is insane!
An overconfident mountain climber gets his arm trapped under a boulder while mountain climbing in Utah. He films his desperate attempts to survive with a camcorder. He is low on water, has no food, and while suffering from dehydration experiences several depressing visions. Will the mountain climber ever get out?
"This rock has been waiting for me its entire life.".
Danny Boyle, director of Sunshine, Trainspotting, 28 days Later, and The Beach, delivers 127 Hours. The storyline for this picture is fairly standard for the survival action genre. I did think the flashbacks and visions were interesting and Franco does deliver an excellent performance as the lead character. The film also stars Kate Mara, Sean Bott, and Amber Tamblyn.
"I can do everything on my own.".
127 Hours was a film I knew I wanted to see but could wait till it came out on cable (I didn't feel I needed to run to the theatres to see an entire movie with a guy trapped under a boulder). I will say Franco delivers the best performance I have seen of his to date. I did like his character and commentary and definitely feel this film is worth watching at least once.
"I need help!
Grade: B+.
