Review of 127 Hours (2010) by Tyler R — 27 Nov 2012
Based on the true story of Aron Ralston, "127 Hours" chronicles the events of Aron as he was wedged inside of a canyon. The big question here is obviously: How does one make this interesting for 90 minutes? The answer: Pretty easily.
James Franco does a great job at showing Aron's transformation from cocky adventure seeker to a man who just wants to say goodbye and apologize to the ones he loves. The flashbacks and delusions spread throughout do a great job at giving us a look at Aron and his motivations for doing what almost no person would dare do at the end.
Director Danny Boyle does a great job of adding his visual flare to the film, and it really adds to the desperate atmosphere. My only complaint is that it tends to drag in a few places; not much, but it was enough to pull me out of the film.
Other than that, this was a lot better than I thought it would, and it wouldn't hurt to watch it. Be warned: The talked about scene at the end is NOT for the squeemish.
