Every generation is going to have an actor, or a handful of actors who are adored as great "artists" and in reality are completely overrated. Enter James Franco. In my eyes, one of the most overhyped and overpraised actors in my lifetime.
Why 127 Hours got so much praise baffles me a little bit. I'm not just going to bash James Franco, I'm sure he did the best he could given the actual plot of the movie. That is where my problem lies actually.
A man stuck in a cave because a huge rock fell on his arm is really not material for a feature length movie, at all. I obviously am in the minority and I accept that, seeing that this movie was nominated for several Oscars including Best Picture and Best Actor.
This was supposed to be Franco's big breakthrough role in Hollywood, and honestly since this movie he has done nothing significant. He should just stick to stoner comedies with Seth Rogan and company.
Just because your kind of strange and "artistic" doesn't make you the next Daniel Day Lewis or Johnny Depp. If I want to watch a movie about someone being stranded by themselves, ill just watch Cast Away.
A movie with a much better story. This is a pass for me, don't waste your time. Not even a good director like Danny Boyle could make this interesting.
