Review of 12 Years a Slave (2013) by Grant K — 28 Jun 2014
Awfully brutal, profoundly sad and extremely important, McQueen has crafted a film that is worlds beyond any other film trying to tackle the horrific subject of slavery. Technically astounding, visually brilliant, intelligently written and powerfully acted, (Ejiofor should have won the best actor Oscar, hands down, and Fassbender was equally talented and menacing), this is a film that's extremely hard to watch - but required viewing.
