Django Unchained was an insult to human intelligence and to those who suffered the cruelty of slavery, full of cartoon characters and stereotypes. 12 Years a Slave was just the opposite, an intelligently written and directed film, beautifully filmed and evenhanded in its portrayal of all concerned in the story.
