Review of 12 Years a Slave (2013) by Sergio R — 06 Mar 2016
It is always difficult to rate films that were based in the real lives of people. In actuality I wanted to rate the film three stars for lack of originality and slow plot movement. That is insane. The reason plot musts remained within the realm of reality is for us to still see possibility inside of it, yet at the other end of the spectrum you have extreme predictability and just plain dullness.
Stories like Solomon are imperative and necessary, though they may seem predictable, everyone of this stories can not be forgotten and can not be left unheard. It is part of our cultural memory, the small events, the small lifes, that time has left out of our visual scope.
The story is five stars, the life is five stars, and the man is five stars. Every American hero deserves his or her recognition. It is a shame they are not all up in the big screen.
