Review of 12 Years a Slave (2013) by Deepak M — 28 Nov 2015
Based on his autobiographical book by the same name, this movie is the story of Solomon Northrup, an educated black gentleman, who while living a happy and free life in Saratoga, New York in the 19th century, was drugged and sold into a life of slavery in the American south for 12 years.
The attrocities depicted in this movie made it very difficult to watch, especially considering the fact that these heinous practices persist globally even today, in the form of rampant human trafficking.
The film is beautifully picturized, and the acting, costumes, and art direction are excellent. Highly recommended.
