"12 Strong" is a fairly nuanced and pretty fascinating story of the early stage of the US intervention in Afghanistan after 9/11. Chris Hemsworth and Michael Shannon are both good (especually the always great Shannon) as the leaders of a small group of special forces soldiers tasked with helping a Northern Alliance faction defeat the Taliban and take over the town of of Mazar-e Sharif.
The story is interesting, the characters portrayed well, but the most crucial flaw of the movie to me is that the battle scenes were dull and poorly directed - for a war movie, that's a big drawback. Worth seeing, but could have been much better.
