Review of 12 Rounds (2009) by Megan — 13 Mar 2010
Mind-numbingly dumb. An everyman New Orleans cop (Cena) stumbles upon an FBI case and garners an arrest. He is promoted and his life seems to be peachy ... until a year goes by and the man he arrested has broken out of prison (a fact nobody is aware of until our cop starts getting phone calls).
Yes ... it is that stupid. Our cop is put through a test of 12 Rounds of cat-and-mouse sequences in order to defeat the baddie and win back his kidnapped girlfriend. EVERYTHING is spelled out for the viewer and all of the dots are connected in front of our very own eyes .
.. this film requires NO thinking or logic or skills of deduction. The acting is horrible (I don't know who is worse Cena or the FBI agent played by Steve Harris) and the dialogue is laughable and preposterous.
One scene has a cable car running out of control at 30 miles per hour and they are afraid that it won't be able to be stopped because it is going "downhill" ... New Orleans doesn't have any hills!!!! Who writes and pays for this stuff? It deserves half a star; but I gave it a full one because I laughed so hard throughout it .
.. maybe it was supposed to be a comedy and I just misread its description.
