Review of 12 Rounds (2000) by Robert C — 10 Feb 2010
I like to consider myself an action movie aficionado. I am also a wrestling fan. How could this movie go so wrong? There's the good, the bad and the ugly, and 12 Rounds is so ugly. There literally isn't a shot in the movie that lasts longer than 8 seconds, the editing is so frenetic.
The villain is an un-threatenting bore, (who's accent slips in and out) and the fact they made the incident not even Cena's fault, makes his whole reasoning for attacking John so childishly stupid, it's hard to bare.
No characters are interesting, and sadly, Cena himself is robotic in the role, at least his lack of acting ability suited The Marine. Here, they ask more than he can deliver. "Oh but people only go to see these movies fro the action.
" Um, the action sucks. Each set piece, or 'round' is set up, moved through and finished so quickly, there is no time to really let anything sink in. The film is literally a blur. It numbs you down with its non-stop-ness, but in a way that makes nothing in the movie really matter.
This is a colossal waste of time, and WWE films' worst picture.
