Review of 12 Angry Men (1957) by Patryk C — 24 Jul 2012
A stupendous directorial debut by Sidney Lumet. The way he was able to depict a story so full of tension and mystery, while placing it only in one single room, leaves the viewer astounded and begging for more.
It's as much of a psychological study of all the jurors, as it is a sociological one. A courtroom drama that bases its effectiveness on dialogues, body language and human flaws, and does it with utmost precision.
All of the 12 actors give brilliant performances, no matter what side they choose to be on in the final evaluation. Henry Fonda is the star in the group, showing enormous constipation, emotionality and, what's more, a glimpse of morality that gives rise to a hope for better courtroom judgment in the future.
