Review of 12 and Holding (2006) by Asrinisa R — 29 Jan 2011
"12 and Holding" is one of the few emotionally touching films that I have seen in a long time. As a teenager, it was refreshing to see one of the few realistic depictions of pre-teens dealing with tragedy.
..and it is well pulled off by the amazing performances by Conor Donovan, Jesse Camacho, Zoe Weizenbaum, and all of the adult actors in the film. It really makes you think about how your life might change if someone you loved suddenly died.
..especially if you're a child. This could really be director Michael Cuesta's best work behind the camera, and it really shows how Independent film can work. I really hope that "12 and Holding" will receive more recognition over the years, as it is extremely under-rated and has not been seen by many people.
..which is a real shame. To me, this is the definitive teen film...filled with tragedy, comedy, and heart-touching scenes that can bring almost any viewer to tears. 5/5.
