Review of 11:14 (2004) by Andres V — 02 May 2008
A wonderfully unexpected little film. The idea is simple enough, and the existance of films such as 'Lock Stock', and 'Pulp Fiction' unfortunately detract from the quality of this production. Though nothing like the aforementioned films in terms of genre, the idea of showing events which are connected by a common thread (in this instance a car incident which occurs at 11:14 one evening) is clever. The fact that this film is laced with dark humour and familiar faces makes it all the more interesting. Patrick Swayze is a top presence, and understands the tone perfectly. Elliot (sorry, Henry Thomas) is underused, but don't write off his role in this story until the very end.
The film is simple, and won't require any deceiphering at the end... nonetheless this is a plus point. Everything is woven together nicely, with no unexpected 'tacked-on' twists.
Both times I have watched this film I have been impressed with the quality of the production, and the ease with which the filmmakers achieved their goal.
